Mates Child Safety Standards
Effective date: 28 October 2026.
These standards apply to the Mates app ("Mates: Meet & Connect" on the App Store and Google Play) and to the ourmates.eu website. They are set by the developer and operator of Mates, Ministry Design Agency Sp. z o.o., ul. Hoża 86 lok. 410, 00-682 Warszawa, Poland (KRS 0001177457, NIP 7011264249).
1. Zero tolerance for CSAE
Child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) is strictly prohibited in Mates. A child is anyone under 18. The following is prohibited:
- child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form, including drawings and images created or altered with AI, and links to such material;
- sexualisation of minors in photos, texts, meetup descriptions and messages;
- grooming, meaning attempts to build contact or trust with a child for the purpose of sexual abuse or exploitation;
- sexual extortion (sextortion) and trafficking of children;
- offering, seeking, exchanging or selling such material, and attempts to meet a minor for sexual purposes.
The prohibition covers profiles, photos, meetups, meetup chats, direct messages, gifts and any other content in Mates, as well as behaviour at meetups found through Mates.
2. Mates is for adults only
Mates is a service for people aged 18 and over. A date of birth is required at sign-up, and Mates does not let anyone under 18 register. If we learn that an account is used by a minor, we delete the account.
3. How to report
- In the app: "Report" at the bottom of a person's profile, the flag icon at the top of a meetup page, or long-press a chat message → "Report". You can block the person right away.
- By email: hello@ourmates.eu, subject "Child safety". Describe what you saw and where: profile, meetup or chat, and the approximate time. Do not forward or save illegal images; a description is enough.
- If a child is in immediate danger, call 112.
- You can also report child sexual abuse material online directly: in Poland to Dyżurnet.pl (NASK), in other countries to a hotline of the INHOPE network.
4. What we do
- Reports of harm to children are handled first, within 24 hours of receipt at the latest.
- Profile photos, meetup covers and profile and meetup texts are checked automatically by OpenAI Moderation, including for sexual content involving minors. Such content is hidden immediately and passed to a moderator.
- When a violation is confirmed, we remove the content immediately and ban the account permanently, with no option to restore it.
- We report child sexual abuse material and other CSAE cases to the police and to Dyżurnet.pl, and, where another country is concerned, to the competent authorities of that country.
- We keep the data needed for an investigation for as long as the law or the authorities require, and disclose it to the police, prosecutors and courts on a lawful request.
5. Laws
We comply with the child protection laws in force in Poland and the European Union, including the Polish Criminal Code (Articles 200–202), Directive 2011/93/EU on combating the sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of children, and Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 on digital services (DSA), as well as Google Play and App Store policies, and we cooperate with law enforcement.
6. Contact
The operator of the service, Ministry Design Agency Sp. z o.o., is responsible for child safety in Mates. Questions about our child safety practices and requests from law enforcement: hello@ourmates.eu, subject "Child safety". Our other rules are in the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy.
