About Mates

Interest-based meetups where you see the group first

Mates is an iPhone app that brings together interest-based meetups in Warsaw, for hobbies and for work. Every meetup shows who’s hosting, who has already signed up and which language it will be in.

Why Mates

Finding something to do in the evening is easy. Deciding to join a group of strangers is harder. A city chat shows the plan, but not the people. Mates shows the people before you sign up: who’s hosting, who’s already going and which language they’ll speak.

Who it’s for

Who Mates is for

For anyone who wants to know who they’ll spend the evening with before leaving home.

Expats and language learners

Pick meetups in your own language or the one you’re learning: every card shows the language.

  • English
  • Polski
  • Українська
  • Русский

People who work from home

When your colleagues only exist on Zoom: a coffee, a walk or board games nearby, with people you can see first.

People who feel awkward joining strangers

See who’s coming and pick a small group: a meetup can have a limited number of spots.

Organizers and venues

Gather people around your activity — and bars, cafés and studios can bring guests to their events. Paid meetups too.

Principles

What Mates stands on

  1. See the group before you join

The meetup card shows the host, the guests, the free spots, the language and whether you can come alone.

  2. People for your hobbies

Board games, running, quizzes, walks, dinners: find people who enjoy the same thing — not just chat about it.

  3. Connections for work and business

Professional and B2B meetups and talks about work: meet people from your field, future colleagues and partners.

  4. Not a dating app

No swipes or dating profiles: people meet around a shared activity.

  5. Adults only

Mates is for people aged 18 and over; one person, one account.

  6. Community rules

You can report a person, a meetup or a message and block a person. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours.

How Mates helps

From “what should I do” to “see you there”

  1. 1

    Pick a reason

The feed collects meetups in Warsaw: coffee, walks, board games, dinners, sports, B2B. Filter by day, topic and language.

  2. 2

    See who’s going

The card shows who’s hosting, how many people have signed up and whether you can come alone. Participant profiles open even before you sign up.

  3. 3

Sign up and plan in the chat

Tap “I want to go”. If the host approves requests manually, wait for a reply. Then the meetup chat opens: where to sit, how to find each other, what to bring.

  4. 4

    Find people after the meetup

Met someone but didn’t swap contacts? People from shared meetups stay in “My people”, so they’re easy to find again.

For organizers

Love an activity? Gather people around it.

Create a meetup and decide how people get in. If it’s paid, the price is on the card before anyone signs up.

  • Open entry or by approval
  • Unlimited or limited spots
  • The meetup language you choose
  • A chat with guests once they join
